How We Review
Our reviews are objective, repeatable and independent. We evaluate real properties against a fixed set of criteria, we invent no facts or ratings, and we accept no payment for coverage. This page documents exactly how a review is produced, so you can judge the judgement.
Our Principles
Real properties only
We review businesses that exist and operate. We do not invent properties, gaming zones, amenities, awards or ratings, and we do not publish a review of a property we cannot verify against official sources.
No paid placement
No property can buy a review, a score, a badge or a position in a listing. We accept no sponsored content and no payment in exchange for favourable coverage, and no property sees its review before publication.
Same criteria for everyone
Every property is measured against the same seven criteria with the same weightings, whether it is a 3,000-suite resort in Macau or a historic room in Monaco. Scale is not a virtue in itself.
Marketing copy is not evidence
Press releases and brand language set the questions, never the answers. A claim is only reflected in a review once it is corroborated by an official specification or by consistent guest reporting.
We publish the caveats
Where a property is weaker, the review says so plainly. A review that reads like an advertisement is useless to the person deciding how to spend their money.
Corrections are public
When we get something wrong, we fix it on the live page rather than quietly removing it. Readers can report errors at any time through our contact page.
The Seven Criteria
Each criterion is scored from 0 to 10 and carries a fixed weighting. The overall score is the weighted average, published to one decimal place.
| Criterion | Weight | What we assess |
|---|---|---|
| Location | 15% | Accessibility from the airport and city centre, quality of the immediate surroundings, walkability, and what is reachable without a car. |
| Accommodation | 20% | Room and suite categories, build and finish quality, bed and bathroom standards, soundproofing, cleanliness and the condition of the most recent renovation. |
| Casino information | 20% | Size and layout of the gaming floor, breadth of table and electronic games, availability and access rules of high-limit and VIP rooms, and how clearly house rules are communicated. |
| Dining | 15% | Number and range of outlets, quality at each price point, breakfast standard, and whether the resort can sustain a multi-night stay without repetition. |
| Amenities | 15% | Spa, pool and fitness facilities, retail, meeting space, and the family or leisure attractions that make the resort work for non-gamblers. |
| Entertainment | 10% | Resident shows and touring programmes, nightlife, and the attractions available within the resort and in the surrounding destination. |
| Accessibility | 5% | Step-free routes, accessible rooms and bathrooms, lift coverage, and how clearly the property publishes its accessibility information. |
What the Scores Mean
| Score | Rating | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| 9.5 – 10 | Exceptional | Sets the standard in its category worldwide. No material weaknesses identified. |
| 9.0 – 9.4 | Outstanding | Consistently excellent with only minor, clearly stated caveats. |
| 8.5 – 8.9 | Very strong | Excellent in most respects; one or two areas lag behind the rest of the property. |
| 8.0 – 8.4 | Strong | Reliably good, with identifiable trade-offs a traveller should weigh. |
| 7.0 – 7.9 | Good with reservations | Solid fundamentals, but noticeable gaps in more than one criterion. |
| Below 7.0 | Not recommended | We would not send a reader there without a specific reason; usually we simply do not publish. |
Scores compare properties within the luxury casino-resort category, not against hotels in general. A 9.0 here is not the same statement as a 9.0 on a general travel site.
How a Review Is Produced
- ShortlistingA property enters the pipeline because readers ask about it, because it anchors a destination we cover, or because it is materially significant in its market. Commercial interest plays no part in the decision.
- Source gatheringWe assemble official room and facility specifications, published gaming-floor information, restaurant and entertainment listings, accessibility statements and the property’s own press material — the last treated as claims to be checked, not facts.
- Independent verificationEach material claim is cross-checked against at least one source that is not controlled by the property: regulator publications, verified guest reporting, or independent travel research. Claims that survive only in marketing copy do not make the review.
- Scoring against the criteriaTwo reviewers score the property independently against the seven criteria. Where scores diverge by more than one point on any criterion, the difference is reconciled with reference to the evidence, not split down the middle.
- Editorial reviewAn editor who did not score the property checks every factual statement against its source, removes anything unverifiable, and confirms that the weaknesses are stated as plainly as the strengths.
- Publication and monitoringThe review goes live with its scores. From then on it is monitored against official announcements — renovations, closures, management changes — and revised when something material changes.
What We Do Not Do
We do not sell coverage
No advertorials, no sponsored rankings, no “featured property” slots, and no payment for a higher score. If that ever changed, it would be disclosed on this page before anything was published.
We do not offer gambling
We host no games, real-money or free-to-play, and publish no bonuses, odds, payout percentages or betting systems. We describe what a venue offers; we do not tell anyone how to play.
We do not take bookings
We operate no booking engine and handle no payments. Every booking button leads to the official property site or a trusted third-party platform, and the transaction is entirely between you and them.
We do not guess
Where information cannot be verified, it is left out and the review says the information is not published rather than filling the gap with an assumption.
Sources We Use
- Official property documentationRoom and suite specifications, facility lists, published gaming-floor information, restaurant and show schedules, and accessibility statements issued by the property itself.
- Regulatory and public recordsLicensing information and public statements from the gaming regulator in the relevant jurisdiction, which is also our source for entry ages and identification requirements.
- Verified guest experiencesPatterns across large volumes of guest reporting. We look for repetition across independent sources rather than quoting individual reviews, and single outlier accounts do not move a score.
- Independent travel researchOur own research into the destination: transfers, seasonality, surroundings and what is realistically reachable during a stay.
Keeping Reviews Current
Published reviews are re-checked periodically and whenever a material change is announced: a renovation, a change of operator, the opening or closure of a significant restaurant or venue, or a change to entry rules in the jurisdiction. Where a change affects a criterion, the score is recalculated rather than adjusted by hand.
The hospitality and gaming industries move quickly, so even a recently checked review can lag reality. Always confirm the details that matter to your trip directly with the property before booking.
